Don Sawyer Background

Don Sawyer lives and works in Destin, Florida. He was born in Monterey, California, grew up in Dothan, Alabama, and worked many years in Montgomery, Alabama. He was in the USMC and is a highly decorated Viet Nam Veteran.
He has always dabbled in art, but didn't begin painting seriously until 1994. His first paintings were done on cow skulls, cardboard, paper sacks, or just about anything he could find to use as a canvas. Don is a self-taught artist, he uses a stiff brush and acrylic paints for his pieces, with these he is able to achieve his bright  bold colors and texture that are a signature of his work. Don prefers to paint on wood, most of his paintings have a tropical or a Gulf Coast theme. All his frames are handmade and painted. Don does do commissioned work.
